This role supports projects from preconstruction through construction by developing accurate, code-compliant, and highly coordinated designs.

The Senior Plumbing Designer works closely with engineers, project managers, and field teams to deliver efficient, constructible solutions while supporting a fully integrated approach that includes design, engineering, prefabrication, and installation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of plumbing systems for residential (single-family & multifamily) and commercial projects.
  • Prepare detailed plumbing layouts, schematics, and construction drawings for domestic water, sanitary, and storm systems.
  • Coordinate plumbing systems with other building systems including HVAC, fire protection, and structural/architectural components.
  • Collaborate with preconstruction and estimating teams to support budgeting, value engineering, and system selection.
  • Review drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with local codes, regulations, and project requirements.
  • Support design-build and preconstruction efforts by providing input on constructability and system optimization.
  • Utilize AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM/VDC tools to produce coordinated models and construction documents.
  • Identify and resolve design conflicts through coordination with internal teams and external consultants.
  • Provide technical support to field teams during construction, including responding to RFIs and addressing design-related issues.
  • Mentor and guide junior designers to ensure quality and consistency across project deliverables.
  • Assist with prefabrication planning and coordination to improve efficiency and reduce installation time.
Qualifications
  • 7–10+ years of experience in plumbing design within the construction industry.
  • Proven experience designing plumbing systems for both residential (single-family & multifamily) and commercial projects.
  • Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, materials, and installation practices.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM/VDC coordination tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Strong understanding of plumbing codes, standards, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working for a plumbing or mechanical contractor supporting design-build and construction projects.
  • Familiarity with prefabrication processes and in-house fabrication coordination.
  • Experience supporting large-scale multifamily, hospitality, or commercial developments.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Drafting, Construction Management, or a related field.
