Job Description

We are seeking an Education Program Specialist to provide oversight and guidance for Special Education Services. This advisory role requires availability for 1–5 hours per month to monitor and improve services, ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines, and support individualized education programming for eligible patients under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

Responsibilities:

• Plan, develop, organize, implement, and evaluate special education programming in an inpatient setting.
• Review records for patients under age 22 who have not graduated from high school to determine special education eligibility.
• Conduct interviews and administer education evaluations and assessments aligned to patient needs.
• Develop IEPs and curricula in accordance with IDEA and Arizona Department of Education requirements.
• Implement individualized educational curricula and programming and establish appropriate goals and objectives.
• Document evaluations, goals, progress, and outcomes in accordance with ASH administrative policies and procedures.
• Participate in treatment planning with interdisciplinary teams.
• Provide support and education to teaching staff and offer technical oversight to contract teachers.
• Maintain patient education records and Nueva Vista School District data in compliance with state and federal requirements.
• Complete required reporting for funding and special education program management.
• Be available as needed, 1–5 hours per month, for guidance and advice to leadership and staff.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Current teaching certification in Special Education. Please submit certification.
• Knowledge of IDEA, Arizona Department of Education compliance, and U.S. Department of Education guidelines.
• Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating IEPs in an inpatient or specialized education environment.
• Understanding of disabilities and instructional implications, behavioral theory, and patient development trends.
• Strong organization, research, and program development skills, including lesson planning and outcome evaluation.
• Proficiency with documentation, reporting, and basic budgeting and procurement procedures.
• Computer proficiency for report preparation and presentation tools such as PowerPoint.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience supervising or providing technical oversight to educators or contract teachers.
• Background in mental health or psychiatric inpatient settings.
